A Bloggess in the kitchen

I love experimenting in the kitchen. And my boyfriend constantly encourages me to cook, bake, fry and stir as much as possible. As long as I don't solicit his assistance...of course. I'd do it every day but, I've already mentioned my abhorrence towards cleaning...so..I cook only when forced.

I had promised my boyfriend to cook him again some of those juicy stuffed peppers that he is so crazy about. He loves them so much that, when he is eating them, it's like he's having sex with them...the sauce is dripping on his beard and he barely breaths between two bites. The preparation of the stuffed peppers took me 3 hours (for those interested, the stuffing is made of grounded beef, rice, leeks, tomatoes, dill and pickled cabbage finely chopped).

Then I baked a delicacy of mine...pâté puffs filled with cream cheese and/or meat. They are delicious and can be prepared very fast if you buy the frozen dough, instead of making it yourself. But my greatest cooking challenge was...the mighty carrot cake.

I had never dared trying this dreaded recipe. In the back of my mind, while grating the carrots, I was entirely certain that a cake with so MUCH carrot in it, could never be good.. Oh my!!! What an ignorant presumption!!! Such astonishing texture, so moist and fragrant...whoever invented it was a genius..(I read that the carrot cake dates back in medieval times).

Hello Petronela:
We really do know how exceedingly delicious those stuffed peppers are as they are one of our favourite dishes too and Tímea, our cook/housekeeper, knows how to cook them to perfection. As to how long it takes - we keep well away from the kitchen!! Indeed, this post has prompted us to ask for them this week.

Your carrot cake looks almost too good to eat. You must be very well pleased with such a result. Any chance of posting a slice or two?!!

What a yummy post. My mom used to always make us stuffed peppers. I just love them and should give them a try.. Thanks for the inspiration.

Dear friend, how your peppers were beautiful!
Unfortunately I can not eat them because I have food allergy. My mother never cared about my allergy, she was preparing dishes with peppers and often I was hungry. :(

I love carrot cake, here in Brazil we put Chocolate coverage on top.

Hugs

All that food looks delicious. I love carrot cake. It is one of those things that sounds horrible but it really works. I also like stuffed peppers, but I am vegetarian so I would change the stuffing slightly.

I love stuffed peppers, I have never made them with the red ones (always green). The next time the red peppers are on sale, I am going to make these;) Yummy!!

Carrot cake with raspberries... I'm drooling! Must try that.
I love red, yellow and orange peppers the best.
The pate puffs remind me of the phyllo dough I use for sweet or savory goodies. Very nice, thanks!!

You should bake more often!! Your baking is excellent for someone who doesn't like cooking. You are certainly talented here. Please post more recipes!

What a cooking marathon. Carrot cake is always a winner here. And we use the cream cheese icing - with grated orange or lemon zest. Yummo.

Mmm, your cooking looks scrumptious! I love to cook too. Used to make a carrot cake every year for my friend's birthday until he moved too far away. Brings back fun memories.

all of it looks yummy to me. Your boyfriend is lucky- on a lot of levels. You've got a great mind, you've got talent and bet there a other pretty nice things about you, too. The stuffed peppers look appealing (I personally love stuffed peppers) and I like the fact you put little berries on top of the carrot cake.

That shows extra care about what you're doing... willing to go a little further with the extra touches. wow. That sounded naughty. :) Have a dandy evening, Petronela!

I envy your boyfriend.

Hi Petronela,
Right, that's it then. Your own cooking show. 'Why I Bake Up Every Day'. Sorry, that was lousy :)
I love carrot cake and I remember having a bunch of carrot cake with the knights of the round table.
I hope I'm worthy of an invite amongst such esteemed company?
Gary :)

Wow, I never thought about when the carrot cake originated, but I wouldn't have thought it had been around so long. All of those pictures look divine. I've been wanting to try a good carrot cake recipe for quite some time. I just need to figure out high altitude alterations.

Wow Lovely Lady! You are an extremely talented chef. Yes, the clean-up part is a drag but everything, especially the carrot cake look delicious. When's the cooking video blog coming out? xoxo!

I am so hungry now... such a shame to torture me so. I haven't made stuffed peppers since I was pregnant with one of the kiddos. It was at least six years ago. Mmmm... carrot cake. Yummy! I'm just drooling over everything. ...

You're like me though. No, I take that back. You really cook when you cook. I on the other hand just throw something together for the kids along with fresh fruits and veggies because I no longer like to cook and I absolutely despise cleaning.

I'm coming to your place soon. Move over bearded boyfriend!

You have reminded me that I havent made a carrot cake in ages. I have one with pineapple and walnuts in it that is really yummy. Especially with a cream cheese frosting.

Getting in the kitchen can be so satisfying. And if you make your man's favourite meal, surely he should do the dishes
